Rigging Hogy® Soft Baits - Swimbait Hooks

With the explosion of big swim baits hitting the market, ”swimbait” style hooks have become mainstream almost overnight. Swimbait hooks almost serve as a cross between fishing with a jig and an offset style worm hook commonly used for Texas rigging.

Simply put, they are fantastic. The bait-keeper will hold the bait securely while the weight on the underside will keel the bait to keep it swimming properly.

Rigging Steps:

Note: rigging techniques are identical for unweighted and weighted swimbait hooks. The weighted version is shown.

Step 1: Screw bait onto bait keeper

Step 2: Line up hook and note where it will enter and exit the bait.

Step 3: Insert hook and adjust bait so that it is nice and straight.

Optional Step 4: Bury the hook point so that it cannot pick up weeds.


Note: Be very careful to ensure proper placement. If you come out too far, the bait will buckle, causing an unnatural motion. If you come out too close, the hook will be pulled inward, also causing an unnatural action.
