Originating in Japan, “drop shotting” first arrived in the United States on the West Coast, and made quite a splash in the largemouth bass scene. Over the last few years "Drop Shotting" has become popular in many freshwater bass fishing scenarios but it is largely under-utilized in salt water.

The Hogy® Drop Shot Rig changes all that!

A drop shot rig is a terminal tackle configuration used in bottom fishing (typically with soft plastic baits) where the hook is tied or crimped in-line above a sinker. Why is this important? Basically, by tying the hook directly "in-line," any movement in the line will transfer directly to the soft bait – and even the slightest pick up by a wary fish is instantly transmitted to the angler.

This technique allows:

1. Pinpoint targeting of deepwater fish on structure.
2. Holding baits in front of finicky fish.
3. Takes advantage of a soft plastic bait uninhibited by a jig head - and fished in deep water!

The action is simply amazing!

The Hogy® Drop Shot rig is available in two sizes, 7/0 and 11/0 and is 48” in length. Both sizes are made with 80lb test fluorocarbon leader and come with a ball bearing swivel on top and a heavy duo-snap for attaching a sinker (or jig) on the bottom. While any Hogy® soft-bait is well suited for the drop shot rig, the Hogy® Flounder is a very popular bait to send down on the rig. The bait just seems to have the perfect “flutter” when rigged above a heavy weight and small members of the flounder family are a prime forage item for larger fish in saltwater just about everywhere. The 7” and 10” Original Hogys® are also perfect candidates for use with the Drop Shot rig and have been used to take trophy sized striped bass, cod, grouper and many other species.
